The Mom Behind it All

I’m Marcee Martinez—a scientist, mom, and author with a lifelong curiosity about how things work, why we feel the way we do, and how we make sense of the world around us.

My career has been rooted in science, innovation, and product development, where asking questions, exploring possibilities, and turning ideas into something meaningful have always been at the heart of what I do. But becoming a mom gave that curiosity a whole new purpose.

Children naturally want to know why. They notice the little things, ask the big questions, and see possibilities that adults sometimes overlook. Watching that curiosity unfold has reminded me that some of the best discoveries aren't made in a laboratory...they happen when we slow down, look closer, and explore the world together.

That is the heart of The Discovery Mom.

The Discovery Mom is a space for raising curious kids and creating meaningful connections along the way. It brings together my love of science, learning, creativity, books, and exploration with what I've learned through motherhood: that children don't need us to have every answer. They need us to be willing to discover alongside them.

My journey as an author began with The Heart's Little Rainbow, a story inspired by loss, love, and the need to help children understand the emotions that can come with losing someone they love. Through Lio and Lisa's journey, I wanted to create a gentle way for families to talk about grief while leaving room for hope, connection, and healing.

That same belief carries into everything I hope to build through The Discovery Mom.

Whether we're exploring a scientific question, discovering something new about the world, opening a book, having a difficult conversation, or simply noticing a beautiful moment together, there is always something more to discover.
